WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Mindfulness is...

Intentionally living with awareness in the present moment...

...without judgement or rejecting the moment

...and without attachment to the moment

Mindfulness is the practice of experiencing the world that is firmly in the ‘here and now’. Mindfulness can be actively practiced through the use of meditation exercises in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment.

What is mindfulness practice?

Mindfulness skills can be practiced at any time and anywhere. It can be practiced while doing just about anything. Intentionally paying attention to the moment, without judging it or holding on to it, is all that is required for practice. Practising mindfulness can also involve meditative practice, breathing strategies, guided imagery and other practices to relax the body and mind, while bringing your attention back to the present moment. Meditation is the practice of mindfulness and mindfulness skills while sitting, standing or lying quietly for a set period of time. When meditating, we choose to focus the mind by paying attention to body sensations, emotions, thoughts, or our breath. We can also practice opening the mind by paying attention to whatever comes into our awareness.
