Hyper-arousal
Excessive activation/energy often in the form of anxiety, panic, fear, hypervigilance, and emotional flooding. This state impacts our ability to relax, often making it difficult to sleep, eat and digest food, and optimally manage our emotions.
Dysregulation
When you start to deviate outside of your window of tolerance, you will start to feel agitated or anxious.
wINDow of tolerance
Adverse experiences also shrink our window of tolerance meaning we have less capacity and a greater tendency to become overwhelmed more quickly. State of 'arousal' or stimulation in which we are able to function and thrive in everyday life.
Dysregulation
You do not feel comfortable but you're not out of control yet. Past this point is where your bodies defenses start to take over.
Hypo-arousal
May occur when we have too much hyper-arousal, surpassing pain/emotions-causing us to plunge into a state of hypoarousal (shutting down or dissociating). Characterized by exhaustion, depression, numbness, disconnection & dissociation.
