4-7-8 BREATHING

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a powerful method for calming the mind and preparing the body for sleep. This practice involves a specific breathing pattern that promotes relaxation and can help to quickly in duce a state of restfulness. Find a comfortable position, either lying down or sitting with your back straight. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to settle in. Begin by inhaling quietly through your nose for a count of four, allowing your abdomen to rise as you fill your lungs. Hold your breath for a count of seven, feeling the stillness and calm. Then, exhale slowly and completely through your mouth for a count of eight, making a whooshing sound as you do. Focus on the length of the exhale, allowing it to be slow and gentle. Repeat this cycle for four breaths to start. Gradually increase to eight breaths as you become more comfortable with the technique. The 4-7-8 pattern can help to slow your heart rate and quiet your mind, mak ing it easier to drift off to sleep.
