TIPS FOR AVOIDING RELAPSE
If you are feeling the urge to use, first try to delay acting on the urge. Start with 5 minutes and work your way up as long as you can withstand.
Focusing on replacing your use with other positive experiences. This may include new hobbies, interests, social activities, or physical activity.
Remind yourself that cravings will eventually pass. Your brain cannot sustain an urge indefinitely. Eventually, it will start to subside.
Have a plan for when things go bad, because at some point, they will. People loose their jobs, injuries happen, and relationships break down. Develop a plan to get through these major life changes before they happen.
Come up with new rituals around how you celebrate holidays, promotions, or other happy occasions. If it normally includes any sort of substance, you’ll want to get creative and figure out something new. Make sure it’s something you can get excited about.
