INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS Boundaries UNHEALTHY Enmeshment: Enmeshed boundaries occur when there is little or no separation between individuals. In enmeshed relationships, individuals may have difficulty distinguishing their own thoughts, feelings, and identities from those of others. This can lead to a lack of autonomy and personal space. RIGID BOUNDARIES: Rigid boundaries involve excessive separation or emotional distance in relationships. People with rigid boundaries may have difficulty opening up, connecting emotionally, or being vulnerable with others. Lack of Communication: Unhealthy boundaries can also manifest as a lack of communication or the avoidance of important discussions. This can lead to misunderstandings and unaddressed issues. Boundary Violations: Unhealthy boundaries can involve blatant violations of another person's physical, emotional, or personal space without their consent. This can lead to feelings of violation and discomfort.
